Maintenance Supervisor

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the Maintenance Department, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective plant operations. This role manages both in-house maintenance teams and external contractors, with a focus on preventive and predictive maintenance, reliability improvement, and capital project execution. Acting as a key liaison between Maintenance, Production, and Engineering, the Maintenance Manager coordinates resources, schedules, and technical support to maintain plant equipment and infrastructure. The position plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, enforcing EHS compliance, and fostering a collaborative team environment across departments.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and direct the Maintenance Department, including managing all Maintenance personnel and supervising PMC (Plant Maintenance Coordinators) staff.
Oversee Preventive Maintenance compliance and effectiveness to drive reliability improvement.
Adhere to all EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) Policies and Procedures; ensure all work, including that performed by direct reports, is conducted in a safe and environmentally responsible manner.
Provide technical expertise in troubleshooting, identifying problems, and delivering effective resolutions.
Supervise contractor activities, including reviewing bids, negotiating contracts, and managing contract maintenance efforts to ensure quality execution of projects in a safe, timely, and cost-efficient manner.
Coordinate with contract maintenance to support operations’ requirements by ensuring timely availability of materials, equipment, and resources.
Improve work practices and procedures to enhance safety, reduce costs, and increase overall operational efficiency.
Monitor and control hourly personnel work for safety, quality, and efficiency standards.
Develop and implement predictive and preventative maintenance programs.
Foster strong, open communication and promote a collaborative, team-oriented relationship between Maintenance, Production, and other departments.
Assist in developing tools and systems to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of contract maintenance workforces on site.
Ensure all work orders are managed and scheduled in coordination with Production, ensuring timely completion.
Provide ongoing technical support to both production and maintenance teams.
Experience:
Minimum 5 - 10 years in chemical manufacturing environment; Prior experience as mechanical Engineer preferred.
At least 2+ years of supervisory or team lead experience in a maintenance setting.
Education:
BS in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering or related field is an asset.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong mechanical aptitude.
Ability to deal tactfully and courteously with others in answering questions and disseminating information.
Must be ethical in behavior and perceived as such by workforce.
Strong technical, interpersonal and communication skills.
Computer literacy, MS Excel, Word, Outlook.
Able to work and deliver on deadlines and to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively; detail-oriented; acts with a sense of urgency
